Grime Stories no. 20. Night adventures

I recently accomplished a long-held goal of mine: visiting Spaghetti Junction after dark. The sprawling expanse of towpaths, walkways, and other ambiguous spaces are typically uninhabited. During the day, these areas can seem daunting, and at night, even more so. For a bit of company and peace of mind, I brought along my good friend Marc (AKA Micky Boy) for protection.

We were fortunate to choose a perfect, mild evening for our excursion. As we descended from the roadside and entered this concrete realm, we were immediately struck by how unexpectedly bright it was. The streetlights cast a subtle light across the area, bathing it in a gentle, warm yellow glow, with occasional sharp, cool accents and crisp shadows.

Our only real challenge was navigating a large tunnel, the sole point where we needed torches to illuminate our pathway. As we ventured through each new section of the route, we encountered enchanting vistas offering eerily tinted textures and sharp forms. The sky maintained a constant "Blade Runner" orange or a murky green, reflecting the city's distant glow.

Inspired by this experience, my latest photographic work is now transitioning into soft pastels in preparation for this year's Pastel Society submission. I am eagerly anticipating my next visit, already excited for what inspiration it may bring.
